Day 1 - Orientation
03 July 2021Had a before-breakfast swim in my lagoon. Ludicrously temperate, and no-one around. Then back for breakfast on my deck. The lovely people from Polynesian Rental Cars decided to deliver my scooter an hour earlier than booked, so I could nip into town for the morning market.
I met a couple called Will and Jill at the waffle shack in the market, New Zealanders who have been living on the island for a couple of years while Will works on roading projects. Picked up some good tips, and enjoyed a maple syrup waffle and a flat white.
Then off to the supermarket to replace a broken razor. In the Cook Islands, Bic disposable razors and the like are locked away for safety reasons. 😮
Lagoon swim, breakfast, and a surprise in the supermarket
In the afternoon, I went for a kayak on my lagoon. Sunny spells and a few spots of rain (!). Apparently it can rain quite a bit here, but this is the dry season. It clouded over a bit when I went snorkelling, so I expect to get some better photos on a sunnier day.

In the evening, I scooted up to Avarua to Trader Jacks, for a local beer and a meal of smoked marlin mornay. Delicious. Listened briefly to a Cook Island trio playing the worst cover of Bohemian Rhapsody I have ever heard.
